Fighting crime in our communities is a top priority in the Western Cape and our forces on the ground are committed to creating a safe environment for all inhabitants in the province.

On Thursday, 4 August 2022, members of the Maitland Flying Squad followed up information and recovered a hijacked vehicle in Mfuleni area.

The members searched the occupant (suspect) and found a firearm in his possession. The 48-year-old suspect was arrested and detained on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition as well as possession of a hijacked vehicle. The suspect will appear in Blue Downs Magistrates court.

In an unrelated matter, members of the Manenberg Crime Prevention Unit arrested a 35-year-old female for the possession of drugs in Sutter Peak Street, Thursday afternoon at about 17:15.

The members were busy with stop and search operations in the Manenberg area when they received information about drugs on the premises. The information was followed up and 133 packets crystal meth, 90 mandrax tablets and 61 gram uncut crystal meth were confiscated.

Once charged the suspect will appear in the Athlone Magistrates court on the mentioned charges.
