Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula has expressed shock after a Khayelitsha based Constable was shot dead last night, 9 April 2018.

Members from Khayelitsha police station came under fire after they responded to a complaint in the Site B area. Constable Ncedo Theophylus Katoyi (39) was shot dead on the scene by unknown assailants.

“It is disheartening when police officials assisting community members become targets themselves. Police are there to protect and make communities safer. We are doing our best to get to the perpetrators of this heinous act,” says Lt General Jula.

Meanwhile local detectives and the Hawks are currently following leads as part of the investigation into this unfortunate incident. Other members from Khayelitsha police station and the Katoyi family are receiving trauma counselling.
