Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) attached to Public Order Policing successfully apprehended a suspect for discharging a firearm in Nomzamo, Strand, on Friday, June 20, 2025.
The incident occurred after officers responded to reports of gunshots in Ndzuzo Street. While approaching the area on foot, the police heard the shots being fired nearby, prompting a tactical deployment. During their search, they spotted an unidentified man fleeing the scene while carrying a firearm.
The suspect was swiftly apprehended, and officers recovered a pistol along with ammunition. The 38-year-old man was detained on charges of discharging a firearm in a residential area.
Once formally charged, the suspect is expected to appear in the Strand Magistrates’ Court to face the allegations.
Authorities have commended the officers for their swift response, which prevented further danger to the community. Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
