Following the lengthy investigation of a case of attempted murder, the Philippi Police, with the assistance of the National POP Reserve Unit, arrested two male suspects aged 54 and 57. This took place this morning,Tuesday, 17 April 2018, shortly after 09:00 at the suspects’ respective homes in Grassy Park.

Firearms and ammunition alleged to have been used in the execution of the crime were seized. A third suspect is soon to be arrested.

The arrest and seizure came following a shooting incident that occurred on Saturday 6 January 2018 at about 17:40 at Egoli Informal Settlement in Philippi. A group of males opened fire on a group of residents of Egoli Informal Settlement, wounding a 30 year old woman in her stomach and buttocks, and a 45 year old man in his legs, back and on the side of his head. A dog was also fatally wounded.

Both suspects were detained at Philippi SAPS and will appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 2018-04-19 On a charge of attempted murder. The police investigation continues.
