The abuse of illegal drugs is one of the root causes of violent crime, and members attached to Operation Restore, are lauded for their efforts to take drugs off the streets.
On Friday 28 April 2023 at approximately 19:30 members attached to Operation Restore conducted stop and searches in the Philippi East SAPS precinct when they observed a premises in Lower Crossroads and noticed exchanging of hands with different occupants in the front yard.
The members then seized four packets of tik from a male who came from the address and who was seen exchanging hands.
The members then operationalized and conducted a search at the dwelling and seized 240 units of mandrax tablets, 60 grams of tik, 15 glass lollies used as an instrument to smoke tik and cash as evidence for dealing in drugs to the amount of R1700-00.
The dealer was arrested on charges of dealing in drugs. Both males aged 23 and 36 are due to appear in court once charged.
Later the evening at about 21:00 the members, who were deployed in Philippi East, pulled a suspicious vehicle with three male occupants off the road. Upon searching the vehicle, they found dagga with an estimated street value of R7000-00, a scale and an undisclosed amount believed to be proceeds from crime. Three suspects aged 41 and 42 and a 44 were arrested for dealing and possession of dagga and will appear at Philippi Magistrate court once charged.
