Pawn shop raided, R8 million worth of gemstones, stolen property recovered, Cape Town

On Monday, 26 July 2021, members attached to Maitland Flying Squad followed up information about a stolen watch at a pawn shop in Cape Town.

Members identified the watch in the shop and conducted a further search of the premises and found another 51 expensive watches. The members continued to search the premises leading to the recovery of presumed uncut diamonds and different coloured gemstones.

A total in 544 gemstones were seized.

The value of all items that were confiscated are estimated at R8 000 000. A 45-year-old suspect was arrested on a case of possession of stolen property and was detained at Cape Town SAPS.

The suspect will appear in the Cape Town Magistrates court Wednesday, 28 July 2021 on the mentioned charges.
