Patricia de Lille elected Cape Town mayor

African News Agency (ANA)

As expected, Democratic Alliance (DA) Western Cape leader Patricia de Lille held on to her mayoral chain on Thursday morning during an election in the first City of Cape Town council meeting following last week’s municipal polls.

After winning an outright majority in the city, DA councillors voted overwhelmingly in favour of De Lille despite a challenge from the African National Congress (ANC) who nominated their mayoral candidate Xolani Sotashe.

Sotashe got 56 votes against De Lille’s 160.
