A suspect was arrested in Siyahlala Informal Settlement in Philippi after members who were on patrol noticed two suspects stripping a Toyota Corolla motor vehicle.
The suspects started running when they saw police approaching, and one suspect was apprehended near the vehicle that they were stripping. The vehicle’s tyres had already been removed and taken away, while the engine was found covered near the vehicle.
It was discovered that the vehicle had been reported hijacked in Ottery in October 2017.
The suspect will appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on Monday 4 December 2017 for the possession of a hijacked vehicle, possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition, and possession of stolen property.
Police management applauded their members for their hard work in ensuring a safer festive season in the Nyanga Cluster.
