Gangsterism, the illegal possession of firearms and drugs are amongst our priorities in this province and our operations are directed to curtail serious and violent crimes with all our resources.

This is exactly the aim of the Provincial Integrated Team’s deployment in crime stricken areas on the night of 27 February 2021. At around 20:00 they apprehended a 22-year-old suspects in possession of a shotgun, a 9mm pistol, ammunition and possible stolen City Law Enforcement uniform in Samora Machel.

The same unit was also responsible for bringing to book, a 38-year-old drug dealer on Friday night after he was caught in possession of an array of drugs with a street value of R10 000-00.

The Nyanga Cluster Crime Prevention Teams were equally impressive when they arrested a 25-year-old man with an unlicensed firearm in Samora Machel. They also arrested a 28-year-old man with a significant volume of drugs and a 57-year-old female, both in Samora Machel.

In an unrelated event our Air wing came in handy when suspects in a stolen vehicle gave pursuing ground forces the slip in Nyanga. The pilot and his crew member reacted on a radio broadcast that a vehicle is being sought, and having the aerial view, the absconding suspects were spotted and followed while the members on the ground were directed to them. It all ended well when three of the four suspects were arrested and the stolen vehicle recovered. The fourth suspect is still being sought.

The detained suspects are all expected to make their court appearance in the respective courts of law, while our operational forces are out on the streets, hot in pursuit of suspects with scant regard of the law.
