‘Operation Lockdown’- More drugs and firearm recovered, Cape Town

Members of Operation Lockdown were conducting crime operation patrols in Harare on the night of 21 November 2019, at about 22:45, when they received a tip-off about house premises where illegal substances are being sold at Enkanini Arch in Harare.

The members headed straight to the premises and upon conducting a further search they discovered a substantial amount of loose dagga. A 44 year old male was arrested and he is expected to make a court appearance for possession of dagga

In a separate incident at about 19:00 members of Operation Lockdown – National POPS Reserve Unit were busy with crime prevention duties when they received information about drugs being sold to young children at Perdeberg Street, Tafelsig.

When police entered the premises they saw a male carrying a plastic bag. The suspect started running and hid the bag in the bathroom. When the members searched the place where the suspect had hidden the plastic bag, they opened it and found 91 full mandrax tablets, 10 half mandrax tablets, 89 small packets of Tik and 10 big packets of Tik, 62 dagga cigarettes and a cellular telephone. A 35 year old male was arrested. The suspect faces charges of dealing in drugs. He is expected to appear in court once charged.

In an unrelated incident on 21 November 2019 at about 19:00, members of Mitchells Plain Crime Prevention Unit were busy with crime prevention duties when they received information about a firearm being kept at a premises at Kweker Street, Westridge.

When police searched a room at the back of the premises they found a firearm in the ceiling. The firearm was a black Taurus 38 special revolver with six rounds. A 30 year old male was arrested on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition. The suspect is expected to soon appear in court.

Also our efforts to rid streets of drugs paid positive results after a 24 year old suspect was arrested for the possession of drugs at a premises in Fontein Street, Steenberg at about 11:30 on 22 November 2019. Members of Steenberg SAPS executed a search warrant at the premises and found three 100gram, one 50 gram, 11 small packets tik and three mandrax tablets on the premises. The drugs have an estimated street value of R35 000. The suspect will appear in Wynberg Magistrate’s court on Monday 25 November 2019 on related charges.
