WESTERN CAPE – Members of Operation Lockdown III have arrested two suspects for drug possession in Hanover Park, following targeted patrols that led to the successful seizure of illicit substances.

The apprehensions occurred on Tuesday, 14 July 2026, when operatives patrolling Halmans Walk observed a suspicious individual. As a marked police vehicle approached, the 32-year-old man abruptly changed direction before being intercepted by authorities. A subsequent search of the suspect revealed 31 sachets of tik concealed in his pockets, leading to his immediate arrest for possession of drugs.

Following this initial apprehension, Operation Lockdown III members proceeded to a nearby residence in Athburg Walk. There, authorities encountered a 24-year-old woman. A thorough search of the premises yielded 35 mandrax tablets, resulting in her arrest on related drug possession charges.

According to Operation Lockdown III members overseeing the operation, both suspects are scheduled to make their first court appearance at the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 15 July 2026.

These arrests highlight ongoing law enforcement efforts to combat the distribution and possession of illegal narcotics in local communities through sustained, visible policing initiatives.
