WESTERN CAPE – Members of Operation Lockdown III successfully executed an intelligence-driven operation in Hanover Park, resulting in the seizure of a prohibited firearm and the arrest of a 25-year-old male suspect.

On Monday, 17 August 2026, members of the operation were conducting targeted patrols when they observed the suspect standing suspiciously in front of a residence in the Downwood area of Hanover Park. Acting on this observation, law enforcement officials conducted a search of the individual.

The search yielded the discovery of a prohibited firearm and 13 rounds of ammunition concealed in the suspect’s pockets.

Following the seizure, the suspect was immediately detained by authorities. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Athlone Magistrate’s Court once formal charges have been instituted.

Operation Lockdown III continues to prioritize high-density, intelligence-led interventions to combat illegal firearm possession and enhance community safety in the region.
