On Friday 22 June 2018, at about 14:35 members attached to Operation Combat conducted a Vehicle Checkpoint (VCP) in Chestnut Way, Belhar.
A white Toyota Quantum taxi was stopped and searched during this VCP. Members found a 9mm short firearm with 12 live rounds and a magazine in the possession of one man.
The 25 year old was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. Further investigation showed that the firearm was not registered. Members also arrested a 35 year old man who was found with a significant amount of tik in his possession.
Both arrested suspects are due to appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 25 June 2018.
