Police deployed in the Mitchells Plain area participated in efforts to prevent crime that threatens the community. On 14 January 2019, at 16:30 members were busy with crime prevention duties when they searched a house in Perderberg Street, Tafelsig and a total of 70 Mandrax tablets were found.

Police arrested a 39 year old male. Police also found 44 clear packets containing Tik and arrested a 29 year old male. Both are facing charges of possession of drugs.

In an unrelated matter, at about 17:30 members of Mitchells Plain were busy with crime prevention patrols. They spotted a suspicious man in Kilimanjaro Street, Tafelsig. When they searched him, police found an imitation firearm in his possession. A 28 year old male was arrested and he is facing a charge of possession of imitation firearm.

In the early hours of 15 January 2019, about 01:10 police received a complaint of a shooting in Kamiesberg Street, Tafelsig. Upon arrival at the scene, they saw a man running into a yard with a firearm in his hand. When the members chased him, the suspect threw the firearm on the ground. Police caught the suspect and retrieved the firearm, a Star 9mm pistol with magazine and four ammunition.

Police arrested a 39 year old male and he faces charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

All four suspects are expected to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court once they are charged.
