Four suspects aged 22, 23, 38 and 40 appeared in the Athlone and Wynberg Magistrate Courts on 7 July 2020, following their arrests on Sunday for charges ranging from rape and robbery, murder and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm as well as possession of a stolen vehicle.

Two suspects aged 22 and 38 appeared in Wynberg Magistrates’ court after they were arrested for cases of rape they allegedly committed in Mxenge and Ramaphosa Informal Settlement in Browns Farm. The 22-year-old suspect allegedly raped the victim at about 21:30 while she was walking to Ramaphosa Informal Settlement.

The victim came across five suspects who robbed her belongings and stabbed her. The suspect thereafter assisted by the accomplice raped her. He is facing charges of rape and robbery as well as assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm. The 38-year-old neighbour was busted for allegedly raping a minor while she was left at her home with her younger brother in the Browns Farm area.

The 23 and 40 year old suspects appeared in Athlone Magistrate Court facing charges of murder, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm and possession of a stolen vehicle. The 23-year-old was arrested for allegedly stabbing his two acquaintances whom he had an argument with while they were drinking liquor on Saturday in Zagana Street in Lusaka, Nyanga. One of the victims was rushed to hospital where he later succumbed to death.

The 40-year-old was arrested in possession of a stolen vehicle. The members were on patrol in Siyahlala Informal Settlement when they came across the vehicle which was reported stolen two months ago in Nyanga.

In a separate incident six suspects aged between 17 and 19 appeared in the Athlone Magistrates’ yesterday on hijacking charges. The suspects had allegedly hijacked a vehicle while the owner was driving in the Browns Farm area. Through networking the suspects were arrested.
