The vigilance of Nyanga police and networking resulted in the arrest of eight suspects in the Nyanga precinct.

A 17-year-old man appeared in the Philippi Magistrates’ court following his arrest on 9 March 2021, in Browns Farm. The suspect was found in possession of three cell phones and an imitation firearm. He could not give an explanation when questioned about the cellphones.

Meanwhile, two other suspects aged 23 and 42 were arrested in possession of stolen property in Nyanga. Members of the Nyanga Sector and Cluster teams followed up on information of a cell phone that was robbed during a robbery that occurred inside a bus in the Samora Machel area.

The suspects were found in possession of four different cell phones, a plasma television and microwave. One cellphone has been identified.

Six other suspects were also arrested on charges of rape and possession of a hijacked vehicle. Three suspects aged 43, 38 and 29 appeared at the Wynberg Magistrate Court after they were arrested on three different cases of rape while the other three aged 18, 19 and 27 appeared in the Athlone Magistrate Court on Tuesday morning for the possession of a hijacked vehicle.

They were arrested after members followed up on information of a hijacked vehicle and busted the suspects inside the vehicle in Dyushu Street in Browns Farm.

The members were applauded for their commitment to bring perpetrators of crime to book.
