The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Thembisile Patekile commended Detective Sergeant Brooks and the Elsies river SAPS detectives at large, for their strong drive and tenacity in the fight against gangsterism which resulted in a successful conviction of a notorious gang member in Elsies River.

The accused was arrested on 8 September 2020 for the possession of a prohibited firearm. Members were doing patrols when they spotted the suspect in Snarebrook Road, Epping Forest.

As they were approaching, he attempted to escape and dropped a firearm. The suspect was apprehended and the firearm was seized. Detective Sergeant Brooks started investigating and built a strong case against him which he presented before the Parow Regional court.

On Friday, 25 March 2022, 25 year old Romano Abrahams was sentenced to 12 years direct imprisonment in the Parow regional court.

We trust that this sentence will send a strong message that gangs and their violent behaviour will not be tolerated in our communities.
