Murder, rape and hijacking: 7 Suspects arrested, Nyanga

The diligent efforts of our members has led to the arrest of seven suspects aged between 17 and 56 on three separate cases of murder, rape and hijacking in the Nyanga policing precinct.

On 16 July 2020, a 56 year old woman and two men aged 19 and 17 were arrested on a case of murder following an incident where a 28 year old man was allegedly stabbed several times during an argument on Saturday morning in Boys Town, Crossroads, Nyanga. The 17 year old appeared in the Athlone Magistrates Court on a charge of murder. The other two suspects will appear in the same court on Monday, 20 July 2020 facing the same charge.

Meanwhile, three suspects were arrested on the morning of 17 July 2020, in connection with an incident that occurred on Wednesday night, 15 July 2020 whereby the trio were part of the suspects that were busted by members while driving recklessly in a Toyota Avanza that ended up colliding with another vehicle in Colorado, Browns Farm. During the incident, the three suspects managed to flee the scene and one suspect was arrested. It was discovered that the Toyota Avanza was reported hijacked in Gugulethu early that month.

The three suspects, aged between 18 and 23, appeared in Athlone Magistrates Court on 17 July 2020 on a charge of hijacking.

In an unrelated incident, a 26 year old suspect is due in Wynberg Magistrate Court on 17 July 2020, after he was arrested in connection with a case of rape. The suspect allegedly raped his girlfriend on Wednesday in Browns Farm.
