Murder and extortion: Stellenbosch policeman and accomplice appear in court

A 26-year-old police constable from Stellenbosch police station appeared in court on Monday morning, 2 November 2020, along with a 35-year-old accomplice on murder and extortion charges after the pair were arrested by members attached to the provincial integrated team on Friday, 30 October 2020.

The arrest of the two relates to an incident where an Ethiopian shop owner was murdered in Stellenbosch in February 2020 after he allegedly refused to pay protection money.

The case has been postponed to 11 November 2020, for a bail application. Both suspects are remanded in custody.

Meanwhile, in line with the SAPS internal disciplinary processes the police constable has been suspended from duty.
