Murder: '27 Skombiso' gang member sentenced to life, CT

The commitment and determination of Anti-Gang Unit detectives, tasked to investigate serious and violent crimes in the Western Cape, led to the successful conviction and sentencing of a notorious 27 Skombiso gang member of Kraaifontein.

On 24 April 2018, a 19-year-old man was traveling on his bicycle when he was shot by a rival gang member. The victim ran into his residence, with the suspect in pursuit who fired more gun shots towards the victim.

The suspect fled the scene and fired more gunshots when he met up with rival gang members outside the house. As a result of thorough investigation, the suspect was arrested on 11 May 2018.

On Thursday, 25 November 2021, the 28 year old Lance Olivier was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Delft Regional court on charges of murder, attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lt Gen Thembisile Patekile commended the investigation and prosecuting teams for securing the harsh sentencing.
