On Thursday 28 February 2019, at about 01:00, a hijacking occurred on Baden Powell Drive, Muizenberg, where a 51 year old resident of Goodwood was held at gunpoint and robbed of his Silver VW Polo, phone, wallet and shoes. The suspects fled the scene in the direction of Muizenberg.

At approximately 01:20, members of Diep River SAPS noticed a suspicious vehicle in Mocke Road and upon seeing the police, the suspects attempted to evade the SAPS members and a high speed chase ensued.

After a short while, the vehicle was brought to a stop in Main Road, Diep River. Two suspects aged 32 and 35 were arrested and taken to Diep River SAPS.

After initial investigation it was determined that the vehicle had been used in the hijacking in Muizenberg and the suspects were subsequently detained at Muizenberg SAPS.

Further investigation led the SAPS members to arrest another three suspects aged 24, 34 and 36 respectively. The hijacked vehicle was then also recovered in Schaapkraal.
