More unlicensed firearms recovered in Cape Town

Police operations are yielding good results and ensures that unlicensed firearms and ammunition are removed from the communities.

Detectives from Bishop Lavis were tracing wanted suspects when they came across a suspect who started to run when he noticed the members. The suspect (31) was pursued and arrested in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

In an unrelated matter, Steenberg police arrested a 26-year-old man after he was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and mandrax tablets in Elsie Manning Street in Retreat on 30 March 2021. Police were patrolling the streets at night when they saw the suspect who started to run when he saw the police.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday 31 March 2021 at about 14:00, police were conducting crime prevention patrols when they noticed a suspicious vehicle in Mdubi Street in Browns Farm, Nyanga. They stopped and searched it and found an unlicensed firearm with ammunition. A 37-year-old man was arrested.

All three suspects are expected to appear in the various magistrates’ court on Tuesday, 6 April 2021.
