More police officers arrested, abalone robbery, CIT money theft, Cape Town

Our investigation into the robbery of abalone where three Constables attached to the Major Offences Reaction Team (MORT) were arrested during last week, led to the arrest of two more police officers. The two Sergeants were arrested last night when they reported for duty at the Flying Squad by our Anti Corruption Unit. At the time of the abalone robbery, the two members were also attached to MORT.

They are also charged with an unrelated theft case where a money bag was stolen on 2 September 2019. The members were posted to guard a getaway vehicle following a cash in transit robbery on the N2. The CIT robbers abandoned the vehicle with the money bags in Harare.

Our investigation revealed that one of the money bags was taken by the officers. Once charged, they are expected to make a court appearance in Somerset West to face the charges against them.
