More guns and drugs recovered, Western Cape

Western Cape police remain committed to the removal of unlicensed firearms and illegal drugs in communities.

In the early hours of Friday morning 28, August 2020 at around 01:35, members of the Anti-Gang Unit acted on information about a firearm being kept at a house in Gazelle Street, Eastridge, Mitchells Plain. When they conducted a search of the premises, they discovered and confiscated a 9mm short pistol; a 9mm short Pietro Beretta firearm and several rounds of ammunition. A 43-year-old male was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Once charged, he is expected to appear in court soon.

Later in the morning, at about 04:45, members of the Anti-Gang Unit acted followed information about the presence of a firearm at a residence in Tradouw Street, Tafelsig, Mitchell’s Plain. Upon searching the premises, they found a Taurus .38 special revolver; and several rounds of ammunition. A 40-year-old male was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm. Once charged, the suspect is expected to appear in court.

In an unrelated incident, members attached to Steenberg SAPS were busy with crime prevention duties when they spotted a suspicious male. They approached him and then proceeded to search him. Members discovered and confiscated 46 mandrax tablets in his possession. The suspect, a 17-year-old male, was arrested for possession of drugs and is expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates Court soon.

Meanwhile on Thursday, 27 August 2020 at around 09:05, members of the Anti-Gang Unit acted on information about a firearm being kept in the Worcester area. They executed a search warrant at the premises and discovered a 9mm Norinco firearm and several rounds of ammunition. Two male suspects, both aged 28, were arrested on possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition charges. Once charged, they are expected to appear in the Worcester Magistrates Court soon.

In another success on Wednesday, 26 August 2020 at approximately 16:30, members of the Mitchells Plain Crime Prevention Unit acted on information about a firearm being kept at a house in Vancouver Street, Tafelsig. When police searched the premises, they found a black Pietro Beretta 9mm firearm and several rounds of ammunition. A 37-year-old female suspect was arrested and faces a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. She is expected to appear in court soon.
