Mitchell’s Plain police responded to a crime scene on Lemoenshoek Street in Tafelsig. A 35-year-old man was shot and killed in what was determined to be a gang-related attack. Through meticulous detective work, Sergeant Bradley Schuurman of the Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit successfully linked Daniels to the murder.

Daniels was later apprehended while driving a vehicle on Kilimanjaro Street in Tafelsig. Members of the Visible Policing Unit pulled him over and discovered a loaded firearm and drugs in his possession. Ballistic tests confirmed that the firearm was the weapon used in the 2019 murder.

In addition to the 20-year sentence for murder, the magistrate imposed an additional 10 years for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, as well as three years for drug possession. The court ruled that these sentences will only commence after Daniels completes a current prison term for a separate murder committed in April 2019, also in Mitchell’s Plain.
