Mitchells Plain CPF executive wounded in 'rival gangs' shootout

The investigation led by detectives attached to the Anti Gang Unit into the attempted murder of a Mitchells Plain Community Policing Forum (CPF) executive last night in Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain led to the arrest of two suspects, both armed with unlicensed firearms. On 28 January 2019, at around 19:00 a 50 year old female was shot and wounded during a shootout between rival gangs in the area.

Detectives assigned to the case pursued every avenue in search of the suspects. Several houses were searched which resulted in the arrest of a 34 year old man who was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

More leads were investigated and during the early hours of 29 January 2019, the 26 year old suspect responsible for the attempted murder was arrested. He too was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm. We will now investigate the possibility that the first suspect was also involved in the shooting incident.

Once charged, both suspects are due to make a court appearance in Mitchell’s Plain.
