Swift action by Khayelitsha SAPS members attached to Organised Crime Combat (OCC) led to the arrest of two suspects who allegedly hijacked a Toyota Quantum minibus.

On Tuesday 27 March 2018, the victim was transporting staff members in Makhaza 42 block, Khayelitsha, when at approximately 23:50 he was approached by two suspects. One of them pointed a firearm at him and drove with him and two passengers to Monwabisi beach.

There they allegedly dropped the victims off after stealing all their cell phones. The police was notified of this incident and immediately launched a search for the hijacked taxi.

The taxi was spotted by police in Site C, Khayelitsha, and the two suspects, aged 28 and 38 respectively, were arrested. Once charged they are expected to appear in Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court for Hijacking.

The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula, thanked the members involved in this breakthrough for their vigilance and further encouraged them to approach each crime scene with an extra caution.
