On the night of 19 June 2018, protestors in the Khayelitsha area set the Mew Way hall alight. POPS members on the scene dispersed the crowd. Several windows were broken by the protestors. The police removed the tyres and mattresses that had been set alight inside the hall and extinguished it.
Damage assessment will be conducted today by the City of Cape Town. A public violence case was registered for investigation. Currently the situation is under control.
POPS members are still on the scene, they will remain in the area until we are satisfied that law and order has been restored.
