Investigations leading to court appearances by suspects who keep committing crime contributes to the SAPS’s commitment to address crimes which are tormenting community members. This forms part of our Back to Basics approach to policing in the Western Cape. A 51 year old suspect from Strand who is alleged to have committed several crimes is expected to appear today (Friday, 2017-04-21) in the Strand Magistrates’ Court in connection with a theft case and five other cases reported in Strand and Gordon’s Bay.

The Khayelitsha Senior Duty Officer, Brigadier Tania Hosking stated that the court appearance originated from a theft case reported in Strand on Wednesday, 7 October 2015 when the suspect fraudulently sold a complainant’s vehicle (Fiat Uno) as motor vehicle parts.

A case of theft was registered and during the investigation police linked the suspect to five other cases that was reported in Gordon’s Bay. The cases range from theft general, theft out of motor vehicle and malicious damage to property. Brigadier Hosking commended Detective Constable Prins for sterling investigation.

The suspect was arrested yesterday, Thursday, 20 April 2017. Brigadier Hosking also stated that the police will oppose bail. The detection and investigation of crime which lead to convictions are part and parcel of the duty of SAPS to ensure that all people in South Africa are and feel safe.
