Committed police members in the Western Cape maintain their pace, by ensuring that prohibited firearms and ammunition are taken off the streets in a bid to secure a safer environment for the community.

Malmesbury police were busy with patrols on Sunday, 17 July at around 18:25 near to Takoma Lane, when they noticed two males walking in their direction.

As the police officers approached, the men fled in different directions with police in pursuit.

One of the males were apprehended and found in possession of a firearm. The 21-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

In an unrelated incident, Atlantis police members responded to a complaint on Sunday, 17 July at around 19:15. Upon entering Mark Street, they spotted a male person who fitted the description of the man who fired gunshots earlier.

The police officers searched the man and confiscated a firearm with ammunition. The 37-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
