WESTERN CAPE — A major George drug bust has struck a significant blow against the regional illicit narcotics trade after authorities seized an estimated R1.3 million worth of mandrax during a targeted Conville raid. The high-value confiscation occurred when law enforcement acted on actionable intelligence to intercept a massive drug distribution operation in Lawaaikamp.

The successful operation was executed on Wednesday, 05 August 2026, at approximately 15:00. A joint tactical team comprising members of the Conville Crime Prevention Unit and Outeniqua K9 members carried out a search warrant at a residence located on Potsolo Notyeke Crescent.

Upon searching the property, investigators uncovered two separate hiding spots for the illegal substances. Officers first discovered a box bearing the logo of a courier company, which contained multiple packets of mandrax tablets. The vigilant team also noticed a chest freezer on the premises that was completely out of working order. A subsequent search of the broken appliance revealed plastic bags densely packed with additional mandrax tablets.

By the end of the search, police had confiscated a staggering 26,000 mandrax tablets. Police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana confirmed the magnitude of the seizure, noting the substantial street value of the confiscated narcotics.

Following the discovery, a 42-year-old man was taken into custody and formally charged with dealing in drugs. The suspect remains detained by authorities and is expected to make his first court appearance at the Thembalethu Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 07 August 2026.
