Attempts by a taxi driver to evade vigilant SAPS Napier members, who were busy with crime prevention patrols, was foiled when the members spotted him turning into an isolated street in Napier.

On Thursday, 12 October 2023 at approximately 23:00, visible policing members conducted crime prevention patrols in Main Street when they saw a suspicious taxi, of which the driver, upon noticing police, turned into one of the small streets. The members pulled over the minibus taxi and ensued with a search when they discovered 500 mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of about R10 000.00. The members arrested the three male occupants aged between 24 and 40, on charges of illegal possession of drugs.

The trio is scheduled to appear in the Bredasdorp Magistrate’s Court on the mentioned charges today.

In a separate incident on, Thursday 12 October 2023 at approximately 11:45, members attached to the Anti-Gang Unit, deployed in Worcester performed crime combatting duties in Roodewal near the Askamp, have encountered a suspicious man and upon searching him, found 35grams of tik and 500 mandrax tablets in his possession. The 26-year-old man was arrested on the spot and charged for the illegal dealing / possession of drugs. He was also charged for the possession of an imitation firearm, intended to be used in the commission of a crime, which was also found in his possession.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in the Worcester Magistrate’s Court once charged.
