The efforts of members attached to Operation Lockdown II to rid the streets of firearms yielded positive results in the Khayelitsha policing precinct
After receiving information about firearms at a premises in Khayelitsha, the members proceeded to Masiphatisane Street, Site C, Khayelitsha where they searched a house and recovered five firearms without serial numbers.
One shotgun, one BXP rifle and three 9mm pistols as well as eight rounds of ammunition and nine magazines were seized. A 28-year-old male was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition.
In an unrelated matter members of the Boland K9 nit and Cloetesville SAPS followed up information relating to a firearm. Upon arrival at the identified address they searched the premises and confiscated a 9mm firearm and ammunition.
A 36-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition as he could not provide a valid license to be in possession of the mentioned firearm.
Once charged, the suspects are expected to make a court appearance in the Khayelitsha and Stellenbosch Magistrate courts respectively on the mentioned charges.
