On Wednesday 3 October 2018, 35 years old James Kottelo has been sentenced to 12 years direct imprisonment at Blue Downs Magistrate Court.

On 24 June 2017, Police were called to attend a house breaking complaint at no 47 Sunbird Drive, Sunbird Park. The complainant reported that at about 04:00 the morning she was sleeping inside her house when she heard that someone was kicking the door.

She thought that it was her husband. As she was busy contacting her husband an unknown male entered the room and threatened her with a knife asking for her husband. She told the suspect that her husband was not at home. He then took the flat screen television, an IPhone, handbag and running shoes.

And fled the scene. Cases of housebreaking, theft and robbery aggravating were registered for investigating.

Detectives immediately started to work on this case and received information about two males who were selling stolen goods around Happy valley, they then followed up the information together with the complainant and they noticed the male who fitted the description. The complainant pointed out the suspect and the suspect was arrested.

After James Kottelo’s first appearance at court he was given a bail and since then he never attended court proceedings. A warrant of arrest was issued and circulated. On 5 April 2018, he was arrested in Kuilsrivier and transferred to Mfuleni where he was charged and appeared in the Blue Downs Magistrates Court.

His bail was opposed successfully. The case continued until he was sentenced on 03 October 2018 to 12 years imprisonment.
