Harare SAPS tracing team were on vehicle patrols in the early hours of 19 December 2017, at Japhta Masemola Road, Makhaza, Khayelitsha.
At approximately 02:30, they spotted a suspicious silver VW Golf 5. As they tried to stop the vehicle in order to do a spot check, the driver and his passenger jumped out and fled. They were both apprehended by the members and taken back to the vehicle they had abandoned. Upon searching the vehicle, members recovered a Rossi .38 special revolver loaded with four live rounds of ammunition. The serial number of the firearm was filed off.
Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was reported as hijacked in Delft recently. The suspects were arrested and will be charged for possession of a hijacked vehicle and possession of illegal firearm. They are expected to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate Court once they are officially charged.
Police management was pleased with the vigilance of the police officials and thus send a strong message that there is no space for criminals in our society. We will further hunt down those who have committed crimes and bring them to book.
