The efforts of members of the Flying Squad to bring preparers of crime to book were, rewarded with the arrest of three hijackers in two separate cases. On 22 September 2019, at around 01:30 members on patrol reacted to a radio broadcast of a red BMW that was hijacked in Mfuleni where the complainant was shot and wounded.

The vehicle was spotted and following a high speed pursuit where a pedestrian was knocked down and killed by the fleeing robbers, the vehicle came to a stop in Sheffield Road, Browns Farm. One of the suspects was arrested while the others fled on foot. During a search of the area, a 9mm pistol was later discovered.

In an unrelated incident, a white Ford Ikon hijacked in Nyanga was spotted and pursued by Flying Squad members. One of the suspects pointed the SAPS members with a firearm which prompted them to take action by wounding the suspect. The wounded suspect and his accomplice were arrested when the vehicle came to a stop in Khayelitsha. Two imitation firearms were confiscated.

Once charged, the three suspects are due to make their respective court appearances in Athlone and Khayelitsha to face the charges against them.
