In pursuit of a safer environment for the people of the Western Cape, members from the National Intervention Team operating in this province under Operation Lockdown conducted a stop and search operation in Delft on the night of 14 February 2020, which resulted in an armed suspect being arrested.
At around 20:30 the members pulled over a Hyundai i20 and searched the vehicle. They found an unlicensed 9mm pistol with ammunition and also discovered that the vehicle had been hijacked in Philippi during last month.
The 30-year-old suspect from Nyanga is due to make a court appearance in Blue Downs on Monday to face the charges against him.
