Efforts to eliminate criminal elements in our communities have yielded positive results in the Nyanga area. Members of Nyanga police apprehended a 46 year old suspect on the night of 21 November 2019, after he was found in possession of a vehicle which was reportedly hijacked in September this year in Nyanga.

The members were conducting patrols in the area when they were approached by the owner of the hijacked vehicle who informed them that he had spotted his vehicle in Ntlangano Crescent, Nyanga. Upon arrival at the mentioned address, members tested the vehicle and discovered that it had been fitted with a false registration plate. Further tests were conducted and the results thereof positively identified it as hijacked in Nyanga.

The suspect is expected to appear at the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 25 November 2019, for the possession of a hijacked vehicle.

Meanwhile, a 24 year old suspect appeared at the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on 22 November 2019, following his arrest for armed robbery after he allegedly robbed a business in Ngulube Road, Browns Farm, Nyanga.

The suspect along with an accomplice entered the business and pointed firearms at the complainant and his assistant and demanded cash from them. The complainant obliged and gave the suspects what he had. They then proceeded to lock the two victims inside the shop before fleeing the scene.

One suspect was arrested, while the other suspect is still being sought by police.
