Efforts by Hermanus SAPS to keep their policing precinct safe as a tourist destination yielded success when they arrested a male for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Swartdam Road, Zwelihle on Saturday evening, 04 November 2023. The members were busy with a vehicle checkpoint when they stopped a blue Toyota Corolla and searched it. A 9mm pistol was found under the seat and the driver was arrested.

In an unrelated intervention, Hermanus police members followed up information about a firearm being kept at a premises in Essex Street, Hawston and upon searching the premises they found a rifle and 17 rounds (9 mm) of ammunition in the house. The suspect was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Once charged the suspects will make their respective court appearances in the Hermanus Magistrates court.
