The Hawks’ Provincial Head in Western Cape, Major General Nombuso Portia Khoza welcomed the sentences handed down to Christopher Jantjies (29), at Parow Regional Court on 29 August 2018.

The case against Jantjies relates to the killing of Xolisile Manjezi at Goodwood Correction Centre on 12 June 2017. This incident stemmed from an outbreak of gang violence within the Correctional Centre.

Jantjies was arrested following the murder of a Metro cop, Ben Koopman, who was killed in front of his house in Eerste River on 15 February 2016. He was found guilty on charges of murder and contravention of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act 121 of 1998 (POCA) following a lengthy trial.

He has been ordered to serve an effective 12 years imprisonment on murder charge and additional 5 years for POCA, both sentences will run concurrently.

The 12 years imprisonment is also said to run concurrently with the life sentence handed down by the Cape Town High Court on 23 May 2018.
