Matthew Broderick Breet (27), appeared briefly at the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on 22 August 2017, following his arrest on 21 August 2017, for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
The Hawks’ Firearms Bureau and Narcotics Unit (SANEB), Crime Intelligence and SAPS members followed up on information about a suspicious group that was gathered near a well known food chain store in Sea Point.
On arrival the members noticed an unoccupied black Jeep with no registration plates.
The vehicle was then searched and members managed to seize a handgun, a shotgun, various rounds of ammunition, a bulletproof jacket, and 2 tactical jackets as well as a police blue light.
Further investigations led the investigating team to Breet and a warrant of arrest was subsequently authorized resulting in his arrest.
Breet has been a person of interest after an inquiry docket was registered during April 2017.
He made a brief court appearance and was granted R10000 bail with strict conditions. The matter has been postponed to 10 October 2017 pending further investigations.
