Our quest in ensuring that we continue to bring the perpetrators to book in the Western Cape produced positive result when the alert members of Maitland Flying Squad arrested two suspects aged 27 and 31 who were found in possession of a 12 bore firearm, 9mm Beretta pistol and South African National Defence force (SANDF) regalia at a house in Khayelitsha on the night of 17 october 2019.

The vigilant members acted on information received and proceeded to the premises to conduct a further search and they confiscated the firearms and SANDF regalia.

Meanwhile in Khayelitsha last night the members spotted a suspicious vehicle occupied by two unknown men and they instructed the driver to pull over. Upon conducting a search in the vehicle, the members recovered two .22 rifles and it was reported that the vehicle had been hijacked in Khayelitsha.

All four suspects were arrested and they are expected to make a court appearance once charged.

In an unrelated occurrence Wednesday, 16 October 2019, at about 19:30 the police members attached to Malmesbury SAPS responded to an accident that occurred at Van Riebeeck Road, 3km outside Malmesbury and upon their arrival on the scene they found a man outside his vehicle. The man who was the driver of the vehicle that was involved in the accident was transported to a medical facility to receive medical attention under police guard.

One of the eyewitness, who was at the scene, informed the members that he had seen the driver of the vehicle, who was involved in the accident, disposing of something in the grass next to the road. The members proceeded to the area, the eye witness pointed out, where the plastic bag was found containing a total of 995 mandrax tablets and Tik weighing about 595 grams.

The suspect aged 30, appeared in Malmesbury Magistrate’s Court for possession of drugs.
