Building stronger relationships and partnering with all communities forms part of our plan to tackle crime in this province, and we urge the public to report criminal activity to us.

Early on the morning of 17 November 2020, while Mfuleni SAPS Crime Prevention members were busy patrolling in Garden City informal settlement in Mfuleni, an anonymous member of the public informed them of a drug outlet. Upon arriving at the address they saw a male suspect hiding a plastic bag between the shacks. When they investigated, they found 287 straws containing tik and two packets of tik with an unknown street value. A 36-year-old male suspect was arrested on possession of drug charges and will appear in the Blue Downs Court soon.

On 16 November 2020, members attached to Maitland Flying Squad were doing a stop and search operation in Heideveld area. In Zuurberg Street they saw a suspicious looking man, and upon searching him they found a .38 Special Taurus revolver in his possession. On further investigation it was established that the firearm was reported stolen earlier this year. A 26-year-old suspect was arrested and detained at Manenberg SAPS on a case of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He will appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 18 November 2020 on the mentioned charges.

In an unrelated matter on, 16 November 2020, at about 15:52, members attached to the Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit were busy with operational deployment focussing on substance abuse, firearm control and extortion in the Nyanga and Gugulethu policing precincts. When they followed up on information received from the community about drug dealing at a house in NY 123, Gugulethu. A searched was conducted at the premises and a large quantity mandrax tablets were seized with an estimated street value of R14 490. The members also seized an undisclosed amount of cash. Two females aged 51 and 67 were arrested for dealing in drugs, and they are due to appear in court once charged.

On 15 November 2020, during a multi-disciplinary operation targeting the generators of crime, members attached to the Provincial Integrated Team arrested two suspects on two separate incidents.

The members received information from the community about a person selling drugs in Lakpypie Street, Rosendal in Delft. They saw the suspect fitting the description, stopped and searched him, and found 50 units of heroin in his possession with an estimated street value R1000. A 39-year-old man was arrested on charges of dealing in drugs. He is due to appear in in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 18 November 2020.

Members also followed up on further information about a man being in possession of an illegal firearm in October Lilly Street, Rosendal, Delft. At the mentioned address, a 55-year-old man was arrested on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He was found in possession of a 9mm pistol and 86 rounds of ammunition. While the members were busy with the arrest, a 24-year-old male interfered with their duties and he was also arrested on charges of hindering a police official in their official duties. Both suspects will appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s court on Wednesday, 18 November 2020.

The Provincial Integrated Team members conducted an intelligence driven Operation in Paarl East where a 52-year-old was arrested in possession of an unlicensed firearm, a 9mm pistol with 10 rounds of ammunition. This operation was conducted at 20:00 last night. The suspect will appear in the Paarl Magistrates Court.

Police management commended the police members for their efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice and thanked the community members who reported the criminals.
