A tip off by a vigilant community member landed a 27 year old man behind bars, for being in possession of presumed stolen property on 9 April 2018.

Police followed up on information they received from the community member about a man who was offering a laptop for sale on Gumtree. He wanted to verify whether the laptop had not been stolen. While the transaction was in process police arrived at the meeting point and the detectives compared the serial numbers.

They discovered that the item was indeed a stolen laptop.

Further investigation led the police to search the vehicle of the suspect where more laptops were found and confiscated. Police also searched the residence of the suspect where more presumed stolen laptops, cameras and cellphones were discovered.

The suspect was arrested and is expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ court on 11 April 2018.

The Sea Point police encourage members of the public who had laptops, cameras and cell phones stolen and have proof of purchase, to contact the Investigating Officer, Constable Kika, on 021 430 3720.
