Gordon’s Bay armed robbers, officer arrested

Swift response by police to an armed robbery in progress at a liquor shop in Gordon’s Bay, Cape Town, resulted in the arrest of four armed robbers, one of whom is a policeman, on Sunday morning, Western Cape police said.

Gordon’s Bay police were alerted by a panic alarm activated at the premises, Lt-Col Andrè Traut said.

Upon their arrival they found a police warrant officer in uniform inside the shop with three civilians who were pointed out by the owner of the business as the suspects who were in the process of robbing him.

All four men were detained on charges of business robbery and possession of an illegal firearm. The police officer’s official firearm as well as a stolen firearm were confiscated. Once charged, the four suspects were due to appear in the Strand Magistrate’s Court.

“No one is above the law and we will make every endeavour to root out criminal elements among our ranks,” Traut said.
