The vigilance and dedication by our police officers to curb gang related shootings in our communities led to the arrest of a 44-year-old suspect.

The members of Mitchells Plain Crime Prevention Unit were busy with patrols when they heard gunshots going off in the nearby vicinity. They drove in the direction of the sound of the gunshots and saw two males running in Langeberg and Olifantshoek Streets Tafelsig and gave chase.

The one suspect was apprehended and found in possession of a 9mm pistol with ammunition.

Furthermore the same members received information about a wanted suspect in Real Madrid Street, Tafelsig and followed up on information and arrested a 18- year-old suspect on charges related to murder, attempted murder and discharging a firearm.

Once charged the suspects will appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ court on the mentioned charges.

In an unrelated matter members of Manenberg Crime Prevention Unit arrested a 25-year-old suspect for the possession of crystal meth in Duinefontein Road, Manenberg.

The members were busy with patrols when they saw a suspicious male walking in the road. When he saw the police approaching he wanted to get away but the members apprehended him. The suspect was searched and a plastic bag was opened and inside the plastic bags the members found 400 small plastic bags containing crystal meth.

The suspect was arrested and detained.

Once charged the suspect will appear in Athlone Magistrates’ court on Thursday 9 December 2021.
