Gang members get life sentences after rival stabbed, burnt alive

A sentence that was handed down today, Friday 22 June 2018, by the Western Cape High Court, resulted in three ‘Uitbyters’ gang members receiving hefty life imprisonment sentences after a murder incident that occurred in Avian Park in May 2017.

It is reported that the 27 year old deceased from the ‘Junior Cisko Yakkies’ (JCY) gang was brutally assaulted with blunt objects, stabbed several times and subsequently set alight. The post mortem report which was presented at court proved that the deceased was burnt beyond recognition while he was still alive.

Judge Le Grange found the three accused guilty and sentenced them as follows:

Accused number 1: Deon Smith, alias “Hakel” (34) was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder.
Accused number 2: Andrew Jordaan, alias “Whitey” (32) was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder.
Accused number 3: Abraham Lewies, alias “Allies” (31) was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder.

The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General KE Jula has welcomed the sentencing and believes that it will serve as a deterrent to other gangsters who relentlessly terrorise the communities of the Western Cape.
