Two police factions in the Western Cape are causing friction as well as allegations of police conspiracy with gangs.

Bheki Cele, the umteenth police minister, “addressed” the two factions and said they had to get over their differences. According to Cele, this should not be difficult as both major generals fought together in uMkhonto we Sizwe.

Generals Jeremy Vearey and Peter Jacobs are at conflict with generals Mzwandile Tiyo and Patrick Mbotho.

The dispute is about Mbhoto and Tiyo, who replaced Vearey and Jacobs as deputy chief of the detective department and head of the intelligence department respectively.

Analysts believe, however, that the solution is rather to get the four on the red carpet and to address the issue rather than just pointing out their past and then just letting it go.
