Vigilance displayed by members attached to the Beaufort West Flying Squad, together with the Crime Prevention Unit, resulted in the arrest of four suspects on charges of cable theft

On Monday, 26 February 2024, at about 10:04, members acted on information received from a member of the community about copper cables being stolen near Three Sisters. The caller also mentioned about a black Mercedes Benz, which was driving very slow with three occupants heading in the direction of Richmond.

The members responded rapidly and spotted the suspicious vehicle on the N1. A high-speed chase ensued, and the members managed to pull over the vehicle at about 80km before Richmond.

Upon searching the three occupants and the vehicle members discovered copper cables estimated to the value of R3 500 000.00. The three suspects were arrested for the theft of copper cable. Further investigations were conducted, which led to the arrest of a fourth suspect.

The four suspects will appear in the Beaufort West Magistrates’ Court on the mentioned charge, once charged.
