Nyanga, Cape Town — Four people have been killed and two others wounded in a shooting incident linked to the taxi industry in Nyanga, Cape Town, police confirmed Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred around 8:00 a.m. at the intersection of Moonwood Drive and Sheffield Road. Police spokesperson André Traut stated that emergency responders transported the injured victims to a nearby medical facility for treatment. As of Tuesday morning, no arrests had been made.
Forensic investigation teams remained active at the scene, which police had cordoned off. Authorities covered the deceased at the location; one body was reportedly situated approximately 100 meters from the primary scene. A mortuary vehicle was present to transport the deceased for post-mortem examinations as part of the ongoing investigation.
While police have not formally confirmed the motive, André Traut indicated the incident is believed to be taxi-related. One of the deceased has been identified as a taxi owner, though investigators emphasized that details surrounding the circumstances remain under review.
The shooting has heightened concerns in a community already grappling with persistent violence. Nyanga has frequently been cited among the most high-risk police precincts in the Western Cape. Residents gathered near the cordoned area but largely declined to comment publicly, citing fears for their safety—a common response in areas affected by gang-related and taxi-industry violence.
The neighborhood features a mix of informal settlements and established residential properties. Community members expressed anxiety over the incident, noting that such events undermine feelings of security regardless of the specific target.
